Watercolor Pet Portraits Commission Yours Now

Capture the essence of your beloved pet in a warm and evocative portrait by award-winning watercolorist John Keeling. Each unique work of art will make a treasured keepsake of your pet or a meaningful gift for any pet owner.

The Artist John Keeling

I'm drawn to the transparency of watercolor.  Its elusive and unpredictable nature makes it both a challenge and a delight for me. With watercolor, I am able to capture the essence of my subject... the fragility of a flower or the devoted gaze of a beloved pet.

I am a painter, but I begin each piece by drawing.  using pencil or ink, I learn to see each subject before I begin to paint.  Once I have a likeness established through drawing, I am set free to paint with spontaneity and joy.

“Cotopaxi, Ecuador”

This recent commission was to commemorate Chris Beal's journey to the top of Mount Cotopaxi, Ecuador.  It was a unique challenge, unlike anything else I'd ever painted. I worked from several photos he provided, combining them to capture the feeling of the experience. Chris's reaction:...

“Unbroken Spirit”

I originally painted this image for a feature quilt panel for my "Snowfall on the Range" fabric collection from Fabric Editions through my art agency, MHS Licensing. It has just been accepted into a national exhibit, "Seasonal Rhythms," at Webster Arts Gallery near St. Louis,...

“The Gaze”

My watercolor, "The Gaze," received the R.G. Endres Award of Merit at the State of the Arts exhibit in Prairie Village, KS.  It is representative of more figurative work I am exploring on a full sheet, 22 x 30" cold pressed watercolor paper.
